Family-owned businesses are playing a critical role in Senegal’s burgeoning economy, contributing to employment and innovation in sectors such as retail, hospitality, and manufacturing. According to a recent study, family enterprises in Senegal account for over 40% of private sector jobs and have become key drivers of economic growth in urban areas.
One example is the Ndoye family, which operates a chain of boutique hotels across Dakar. The business, started by the family patriarch in the 1980s, has expanded significantly, attracting tourists and business travelers from across the globe. “We started with just one property, and now we have five. Family values and community engagement have always been at the core of our business model,” says Aminata Ndoye, the company’s current CEO.
With the government’s focus on boosting the private sector, family-owned businesses in Senegal are expected to continue growing, offering stability and job creation in the evolving economic landscape.
